She's getting care at a raptor center outside Los Angeles. We wish her well and will keep you updated. Seems like a good time to remind folks what makes her so amazing. For example, she spent 62 hours buried in a blizzard without ever leaving her eggs — but the bigger threat to Jackie and Shadow right now isn't the weather, it's development. This week on Beaks, host David Schechter and panelists Tim and Jon watch the Big Bear Valley eagle cam with wildlife biologist Dr. Jim Bednarz, from the University of North Texas, and Jenny Voisard, with the Friends of Big Bear Valley — the nonprofit that shares live video of Jackie and Shadow and is now racing to save the land they depend on. San Bernardino County has approved a luxury housing development with marina slips on the last undeveloped shoreline on Big Bear Lake — less than one mile from Jackie and Shadow's nest and a key foraging ground for the pair during nesting season. The site also connects the lake to the national forest, making it a critical ecological corridor for waterfowl and fish, not just the eagles. FOBBV believes construction stress that close to the nest could make it harder for Jackie and Shadow to raise their chicks. FOBBV is running a grassroots fundraiser to buy the land outright and protect it permanently. 👉 Donate to the campaign: 🦅 Watch the Big Bear Valley eagle cam: 🔔 Subscribe for new episodes of Beaks ✉️ Let us know if you have video you'd like to share with Beaks: [email protected] Also in this episode: How eagles engineer a nest sturdy enough to survive a storm Why Jackie handled 100% of incubation through the worst of the weather The 62-hour blizzard stretch that had fans holding their breath #Beaks #BaldEagle #JackieAndShadow #SaveMoonCamp #BigBearValley #BirdCam #Wildlife gRjGIZ7ACWe cBcKSDNgS7J jSvzZYhbDoO 1CaZRpdKcKK IYTn7Hr0CPK GKgIvlroqev
