A powerful nor’easter is expected to wallop the tri-state area Sunday into Monday, bringing raging wind gusts, whiteout conditions, and up to a foot and a half of snow in New York City — with even higher totals farther east. Storm Team 4 forecasts show nearly the entire region could see between 12 and 18 inches of snow from Sunday afternoon through Monday morning. Much of Long Island, along with Monmouth and Ocean counties in New Jersey, could see as much as two feet. Snow may begin as rain around midday Sunday before changing over, with conditions quickly deteriorating in the hours that follow. A blizzard warning is in effect across the city and throughout the region. It has been nearly a decade since the last blizzard warning was issued for the five boroughs.
