Durbin Unveils Bipartisan Social Security Plan | Warns Benefits Could Be Cut by 2032 | PROMISE ACT [a4ZNaBdCOKy]

DES Senator Dick Durbin has introduced the bipartisan Promise Act, a proposal designed to begin congressional action to strengthen Social Security before projected funding shortfalls reduce benefits. Speaking on the Senate floor, Durbin warned that according to the latest Social Security Trustees Report, the programme may only be able to pay around 78% of scheduled benefits by 2032 if Congress fails to act. He argued that lawmakers should repeat the bipartisan approach taken in 1983 by creating a process to debate and vote on reforms capable of keeping Social Security solvent for at least another 50 years. The proposal does not prescribe specific benefit changes. Instead, it establishes a bipartisan framework allowing Congress to consider competing plans through hearings, amendments and votes.
