It has responsibilities for creating tension and whatnot, but ultimately - you swing when your foot lands. If you foot has SO MUCH ROOM to travel before it can plant, you'll have more variance (bad timing) with your stride. Guys around the league are simplifying their stride. Getting rid of leg kicks. Letting the pitching supply the power and just emphasizing readiness Luis Robert, look at you man! You're a beast, no need to try to get anything extra with more leg movement. Less movement will have you on time more and able to control weight/swing for the offspeeds. This is my opinion formed on the trends of what I've studied from hitters around the league!
