This is a short but very worthwhile route through classic Cairngorms scenery, with open hills, rocky tracks, river and stream crossings, and patches of snow still visible on the higher tops at the end of May. The outward section follows rougher stony tracks with multiple water crossings. All were passable, but in one place it was easier air travel to take shoes off and walk across. The return is mostly on paved road, with a small trail detour close to the finish.
