At least 69 people have had their citizenship revoked according turkish airlines to a directive by King Hamad bin Isa Khalifa, including family dependents of those accused.Bahrain does not generally allow dual citizenship. This punishment therefore renders them stateless, which is generally deemed illegal under international law for violating the fundamental human right to a nationality.Bahrain is not a signatory of the conventions on statelessness.Campaigners told Middle East Eye that many of those named were Ajami, a term referring to Gulf communities whose ancestors historically migrated from southern Iran. The directive came a few days after the king met with Kuwaits foreign minister.
