One is the people. My employees and our partners have become some of my best friends in the world, short of my own wife and kids. That's my world. But the other half, the part that really gets me going, is picking my top competitors and taking things from them.In this conversation I get real about what actually drives me. I talk about the Michael Jordan mentality from The Last Dance, where you almost invent a rival just to fuel yourself, and why that same fire shows up in how we recruit and compete. I'll tell you exactly what earns someone a spot in my sights, and it's usually one of two things. Either they went out of their way to talk trash about my character to people who had never even heard of me, or they took carbon copies of what we built and used it to recruit from the same pool. That second one is fair game, by the way. I don't blame anyone for copying. But if you're going to copy daddy, sometimes daddy's got to give you a spanking.I also get into the thing that fires me up the most right now: the venture capital funded operators who never rolled their sleeves up, never sold a policy, never talked to a person over 65 in their life, and then sit in a boardroom, get handed sixty million and then a hundred and seventy five million, and go tell everyone they're the best while trashing the entire agent distribution channel. I want to be so much better than them that the whole thing falls apart, because the only way to actually build this is to understand the consumer and understand the agent. You can't fake that with a pitch deck. Here's the deeper truth underneath all of it. This stopped being me against everybody a long time ago. It became my squad, my group, my band of married men, all of us doing it together. And when it's your team on the line, you don't compete to survive. You compete to be the biggest and the best, period. If you've ever been underestimated, or watched someone get handed what you had to earn, this one is going to hit.
