For more than a week, temperatures remained below freezing, allowing ice to form along parts of the Hudson River, especially near Manhattan’s western shoreline. Smaller amounts of ice were also visible in nearby waterways, including the East River and areas around Central Park. This incredible view was captured on January 28, 2026, by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) aboard Landsat 8, a satellite designed to observe changes across Earth’s surface.
